MC Mantra – The Menstrual Mentor

MC Mantra – The Menstrual Mentor is an initiative to promote awareness, education, and empowerment on menstruation among adolescent girls and women especially in rural India. It brings together scientifically truthful, socially sensitive, and culturally appropriate information to overcome myths, and promote healthy practices.

Awareness Education Empowerment Menstrual Health

Why this matters?

Menstruation is a natural biological process and common part of life. Still in India it remains surrounded by taboos, mysteries and silence. Because of limited knowledge and unsafe practices, many girls and women face health problems and higher risk of infections. Menstrual taboos especially in rural area also hurt their confidence and emotional wellbeing, making them feel embarrassed or isolated. As a result, girls often miss school and women miss work, affecting their education, opportunities, and overall growth.

MC Mantra – History & Development

Our preliminary surveys in North Maharashtra revealed that adolescent girls had inadequate knowledge, faced social constraints, and often ignored the hygiene practices during menstruation. To address this, an awareness programme titled β€œJAGRUTI – Judicious Awareness of Girls for Reproductive and Urogenital Health in Tribal India” was launched, bringing accurate knowledge, eliminating misconceptions, and motivating girls towards safe practices. This laid the foundation for developing this comprehensive digital database named MC Mantra – The Menstrual Mentor.

This initiative reflects the enduring commitment of Dr. Kalpesh R. Patil, a pharmacy professional and educator, who has been associated with this assignment for over a decade, and conceptualized the development of digital platform – MC Mantra. Initially, a public awareness campaign called "JAGRUTI" was launched, which has now grown into a digital knowledgebase, MC Mantra, supported by a devoted team.
